Alright, thanks for coming to this new blog. I have other blogs, one is even read regularly by more than 4 people, but I think I’m going to turn this one into a niche specifically to discuss issues and ideas circumnavigating gender and gay rights, media, literature, and more.
I’ll pretty up this page and give myself a catchy slogan and etc, just give me time.
Now, concerning the questions and comments below, I’d just like to mention that I enjoy debate and creative disputes, plot deconstruction and media related, sociological, healthy what-iffing about the world.
Bad continuity kills me, unless Matt Groening is somehow involved. Mind you, I f’ing love L Word-but here’s some questions if you happen to feel like thinking about them.
Please, by all means, comment if you have any input on the following:
1. I originally fell in love with L Word, way back in Season 1, for two reasons:
A) The soundtracks. From Leonard Cohen to the Be Good Tanyas, there was something very special going on musically during season 1. I wanted to know who was in charge of the selections and make her my girlfriend. Lots of folky-ness, lots of jazziness going on there. They were intelligent choices that provided an optimal emotional experience, and I’ve missed their music selector since.
Mind you, there’s been lots of auditory goodies through out the series, but to me-there was a timing element that disappeared. Why? Did some one get fired? Did a marketing dimwad make a poor, but accepted suggestion?
B) In season 1, the opening scenes-before the intro music-were genius. These scenes were relative to one small aspect of the episode’s storyline. The direction of these scenes were anarchic, sensual, raw, and artful-always exposing bits of the commonality of homosexuality and- the hypocrisy of its denial- among an otherwise straight world. It was beautiful, at least I thought so. Where did that go?
2. In Season 5-what was up with Alice’s seemingly fake apology to the transgender community? The shifting eyes, the inflected sentences….Shane’s eyes drifting with the camera in the middle of it. Why does it seem like everyone treats Max like Screech from Saved by the Bell? Alice sounded like a preppy, self-centered high school cheerleader talking to a geek only because he passes her the answers in Chem class.
What the hell.
3. A lot of people have said, lately, that the show isn’t about reflecting lesbian life-but instead, reflecting lesbian life in LA. Is this true?
4. Does anyone remember Season 1, back when Alice was bisexual? When did this change?
5. Where’d Papi go?
6. Does Jenny have Multiple Personality Disorder-or, to be up to date-DID. (It’s now called Dissociative Identity Disorder.) ?
7. What’s wrong with Tina’s mouth? Sometimes it seems like her mouth is moving slower than her words. Is there Japanese involvement? Is it me?
Catch Phrase: “Psyche you stupid dyke!”
(Only to be said from one lesbian to another until further notice.)
